Next Event : Bridgeport Speedway, Friday May 9th

Staying out of trouble and finishing strong
May 2nd - Week 5

This past Friday was the first night cars were lined up in there heat races with the handicap points system. Going into the night 3rd in points Nick started last in the 1st heat (11th). With the 270’s being the first class to complete heat races on the night the track was still coated in a fine layer of “slime”. Nick only mover forward two positions forcing the team to prep the car for the consolation race. 15 cars took the green flag in the consi, and with a small tangle in front of Nick he quickly moved from his 9th starting position to 5th by lap two. As the laps ticked off Nick was able to move up another two spots to place the car in the feature.

The team was chasing the track all night long not sure what adjustments to make to get the car to the front and keep Nick in the points chase. With adjustments being made up to the time the cars rolled onto the track Nick had his work cut out for him coming from a 23rd starting position. As the felid took the green cars scattered the track and a long green flag run placed Nick in the top 10 by lap 15. Keeping his nose clean Nick pulled off an 8th place finish, not there best performance of the year but a solid one that keeps the team in the tight points chase going into week 5 at Bridgeport Speedway! Hope to see you there!!!!

Sophomore Standout!
April 26th - Week 4

What a start. The Team RTP 270cc micro sprint is off to a blistering pace so far this season. Entering week 5 Nick and the team are “riding the wave” of good feature race finishes. In week one Nick finished 2nd at Middelford Speedway a track never see by the driver before warm-ups. The following week the team traveled to Borgers Speedway in Saylorsburg, PA. Again a new track for Nick, and after taking a liking to the tight cornered long straight away track Nick wheeled the car from a 21st starting position to a solid 4th place finish.

With emotions high the team moved to Bridgeport Speedway, the team’s home track, for the season opener. With a total of 43 270cc micro sprints filling the pits Nick new that it was going to be a challenge to make the A-Main. With trouble in the qualifying heat Nick was forced to run the B-Main. As the cars rolled onto the track the sky’s opened up and the program was canceled.

Going into week two of Bridgeport’s season wholesale changes were made to the car and many sleepless nights keep Nick wondering how the first feature event of the season would play out. After having to come from a 9th place starting position in the heat race Nick raced to 3rd and qualified the car into the feature. As the cars rolled onto the track for the feature Nick noticed the track had slicked off and the changes that the team made during intermission were a god choice. As the field took the green Nick began picking cars off one by one, in the end finishing 6th after starting 16th.

Again with a confident team and confident driver the team moved onto week four at Bridgeport Speedway. Still having to “pull pills” to set the qualifying heats Nick again pulled a poor number, setting himself to start 9th out of a 9 car heat race. Again with a fast car the 02 was a rocket off the corners picking off cars one by one to finish a close 3ed place. Making minor adjustments and putting a new Hoosier right rear tire on the car feature time was upon us. Nick started 10th and with in lap 2 Nick was inside the top 5. Two more cars were passed moving Nick to 3ed with only 5 laps to go. Nick needed a caution to bunch up the field but none came and the 02 made an impressive drive form 10th to 3rd, Nick best career finish at Bridgeport Speedway!!!!!

Moving into week five the team is still in the hunt for that first win and more determined than ever to accomplish there goal.

Other Notes::.
Nick can be found at most URC and ARDC races helping Mark Bitners URC efforts and team RTP’s own PJ Gargiulo with his drive for success in the super completive ARDC Midget racing action.
