Father and Daughter Finish First and Second In Quad 4 Midgets
at Whip City Speedway
By Mark McKeon Westfield, MA
Scott and Bethany Viets finished first and second in the postponed
Quad 4 Midget feature race at Whip City Speedway on Saturday
night and then came back to finish first and third in this
week’s main event.
“
This is something I’ve wanted for a long time,” proud
poppa Scott Viets said after the 1-2 finish. “I didn’t
care if I won or if Bethany won, but I’ve dreamed about
us finishing first and second ever since we started racing
together.”

5 Students are First Time Winners at Whip City Speedway
By Mark McKeon Westfield, MA
Five teenagers, four of whom are too young to drive on the
highway, each won the first feature of their career in their
current class on Saturday night at Whip City Speedway, defeating
drivers 3 and 4 times their age. Rob Spino, Peter Dance, Matt
Seymour and Seth Carlson all visited victory lane for the first
time as Mini Sprint winners, while Bethany Viets won her first
Quad 4 Midget feature.
A
couple weeks ago, Bethany Viets finished second to her father,
Scott
Viets,
in a Quad 4 Midget feature. In this week’s
feature, the positions were reversed as the 16 year old student
at East Granby High School picked up her first win in a Midget
and her father finished second. In the Quad 4 make-up feature,
Tony Montesi picked up the win in a photo finish with Kelly
Ferrell.

great write up! :)
Thom Ring's Excellent Adventure - by Thom Ring
" ..Opening night turned out to be two weeks later, thanks to
rain. I arrived early but I had the task of choosing and recognizing
the best looking car in the Quad-4 Division. The car of Quad-4
heavyweight Scott Viets was as flashy as any midget I've seen,
as was his daughter Bethany's ride, owned by Charlie Gunther..."
"...'Just
stay low and make them get around you,' her offered.
It was good advice. I suppose I should have taken it. But
when Bethany Viets blasted by me on the outside I punched
it, intent
on keeping pace with her.
Yeah, right..."
"...I
understand Bethany Viets and Tony Montesi, piloting an ex
Walt Scalden
midget now campaigned by the ageless Hully
Bunn, put on an incredible show before Montesi earned the victory.
I do recall clearly the pair flying by as I labored to catch
Jacobs..."
